Year Of Awesome

Running: Not interested but not a problem.

Really wasn’t looking forward to today’s run but it was a beautiful day. The run was solid – legs felt heavy at first, probably from yesterday’s workout but only stop was to retie my shoes. Somehow the laces tightened enough to cut off my circulation in my feet. My toes were completely numb at the halfway mark. Anyway, great run and I’m pleased with my progress. It was even suggested that Nick and I compete in the Dirty Half, a 13.1 mile loop course in the Phil’s Trail area west of Bend. The entire course has a net gain/loss of approximately 1000 feet in elevation. Training for a half marathon right before the tri doesn’t really sound like a good idea to me but I guess there’s a time to decide on the later. Perhaps that could take the place of the 100 push up challenge.

Workout: Legs and Core

I guess I’m not feeling creative this week – I can’t think of anything interesting to say. Used my REI gift card my mom gave me for my birthday on a pair of tri shorts and a pair of jammers for my swim class. Ugh. I’m falling asleep while I’m writing this. Please stop reading now before your forehead slams into your keyboard.

Have you donated to the Awesome Fund yet? Yeah, I wouldn’t either after reading this horrible dribble.

Cheers.

Running: The Grin And Bear It 10k

Chris asked if I’m doing the Grin and Bear It run in March. Yeah, I think I am gonna give the 10k a go since it’s just a bit farther than what we’ve been doing. And since I’ve never actually “competed” in any race before I figure if nothing else it’s good experience. My swimming class starts next week so I’ll be stepping up the work out program a bit with two-a-days on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I’ve been working with Healthy Beginnings – the non-profit that the race benefits and actually did this years t-shirt/brochure/poster design (see below). It’s for a very good cause and I encourage everyone to participate. They have a 10k, 5k and a 1-mile family fun run. You can download an entry form here.

Running: Ok, So It’s Getting Harder To Be Clever And Interesting With These Entries

Seriously. Ran today as usual for a Wednesday. It was a very good run though I had to stop for that side stitch I keep getting toward the last third of the run and while treating that, my left leg cramped up something aweful and I could barely walk. The only thing I could do is start running again and hope it would work itself out, which it did. Other than that it was a really solid run. Lungs are really feeling great. Also got to try out a new pair of running shorts and shirt I got at REI and they were worth every penny. I did not however get to track my run because I recently restored my iPhone and didn’t realize I had not synced my apps back to it, so no Runkeeper. I did, however, got to listen to a bunch of Flight of The Conchords stuff I stole from Nick’s iTunes. Very funny.

Oh, have I mentioned I’m holding steady at 176 lbs? That’s 9 lbs under my goal weight. Who’s awesome? Me.

Running: Back In The Groove

Ahhhh. Despite the rain it was a very nice run today. Actually the rain was kinda nice. Lungs felt great. Legs felt good if not a little sore from snowboarding on Saturday. Still working on increasing my cadence. Reading about running techniques in “The Triathlete’s Training Bible”. I’d like to step up my performance over the next 3 weeks in preparation for a 10k I did some design work for here in town called Grin and Bear It on March 14. I don’t think a 10k is on my list but it would be a good intermediate goal and would be my first so… yea me.

Cheers everyone, hope you  had  a great weekend.

Snowboarding: Beautiful, long day.

Today was Wyatt’s first day of a six-week long ski lesson called Mighty Mites. He goes from 9 am to 3 which will give me some much needed time on my board. It was a beautiful day and strangely the mountain was not crowded at all, which was  a good thing cause I was all over the place working on my turns. I even took a chance and went up to the summit. It was an awesome view but super windy and cold. And extraordinarily high and I found myself with vertigo and heeled it all the way down. Boooooo. But atleast I know what to expect now. I think I got in 10+ runs for the day and really was enjoying my progress. But 3 pm felt like it would never arrive. At 2:45, I decided to squeeze one last run in but I hit a patch of ice and ate it pretty good, tweaking my right hand. Nothing major but definitely the result of being tired. When I picked up Wyatt, his instructor gave him glowing reviews and to my surprise he was hardly ready to go. Nice work, buddy.

Running: Better Than Before

Wednesday’s run was truly crappy so short of dropping dead today’s run could only get better. And only slightly better it was. My legs felt like those of an elephant and my lungs like those of a mouse. But afterwards I felt great and that all that matters. And I immediately was looking forward to the next run.

That said I’m really looking forward to tomorrow. It’s Wyatt’s first day of ski lessons which will give me a ton of time on my board to work on my turns and straight-aways. It looks like the weather is going to be ideal.

Weigh-in: Pants Are Dropping Like Flys… wait.

That doesn’t sound right. What IS right is that I’ve dropped another 3 pounds to get to 176 – nearly 10 lbs under my original goal weight. Luckily Valerie got me a couple of pairs of jeans for my birthday because 5 of the 6 pairs I own literally drop to the floor without a belt. Which means they look pretty sloppy on and need to be retired. And one pair, my favorite, are just unwearable. : (

Not complaining. Except that why the hell are jeans so expensive? Replacing the ones I have is going to be a small fortune.

Running: Worst Run Ever. In The History Of Running, Mind You.

Well, worst in the past couple weeks anyway. And on the most beautiful day of the year so far. Darn. Really thought I was turning another corner after Friday’s run. My lungs felt great – better than ever. Despite a belly full of birthday cake. But today just sucked. I could not find a rhythm and struggled throughout the full 5 miles. On top of that, it’s just simply been a shitty day at work. Could they be related? Perhaps. Perhaps, Friday’s run will be great. Here’s hopin’.

On the bright side, RunKeeper worked this time. Not that I’m going to post those shitty stats though.
