Snowboarding: Wyatt’s Ski Class #3

Woke up today pooped from yesterday but, as Nick would say, I pulled up my big girl panties and took Wyatt to his ski class. The first couple of runs were brutal but then I got my second wind and tore the mountain up to the sounds of the Beastie Boys. Snowboarding to music is a whole other experience – might be hard to do it otherwise now. I stayed strapped in from 9:30 to 1:30 when I finally had to break for lunch. I stretch out in the back of the xTerra with the lunch Val made me and my laptop. Thought about napping until Wyatt’s class was over but was too wired. Also thought about going back up but the weather was getting pretty crappy and I was getting pretty comfortable. I was relieved when 3 o’clock finally came around and Wyatt and I could go home. That’s a long day.

Snowboarding: Running Is Officially Invited To Suck It.

With toe wrapped sufficiently, Nick and I hit the mountain first thing today to enjoy the first real blue bird day. Work is dreadfully slow so we thought it would be a perfect time to take advantage of our passes. And oh man was it great. The powder was crazy and we tried desperately to work on our 360 goals but were completely unsuccessful. Great fun trying though. We took a dozen runs before our legs said no more. Pics to come.

Two-a-Days Are For Wimps

I’m not gonna mention any names, but some are satisfied with accomplishing a mere two activities a day. Well, not me. Today I started my morning on the bike training. Then for lunch I grabbed my board for a couple of quick rides at the mountain. There was a good amount of powder but the pain in my left calf that was giving me trouble in the last two runs felt very sore in my boot and made left turns pretty uncomfortable. Despite the pain and the time constraint, it’s always good fun up there. Finally tonight was my first swim class. I admit I was a bit anxious before it started but we have a great instructor and 7 of the 8 participants are training for the Deschutes Dash. This first class focused mostly on head position. Thursday we start breathing drills – something I really struggle with. But I’m much more excited about the class now than before.

I think I’m gonna sleep pretty good tonight.

Snowboarding: Thanks, Reeses! Especially Jessica.

The Reeses invited to go with them to the mountain today – kid free. Jessica, Nick’s sister, graciously offered to watch all four kids. When we woke up this morning Bend was covered with freezing fog. If you’ve never experienced this, it’s quite beautiful. It basically bathes the trees in frozen crystals (see below). But when we drove up the mountain, the fog broke to reveal blue sky and warm temperatures. Valerie finally got a helmet and goggles and a much needed adjustment to her new boots and she was ready to hit the slopes. Unfortunately, there was a ton of ice up there which made for some hard falls and certain bruising. Never-the-less, a great time and definitely should count as a workout. Après-ski included a trip to Cascade Lakes Brewing Company for beer, bacon burgers and great conversation. Well- deserved and well-appreciated. Many, many thanks to Jessica for allowing us to enjoy some rare adult time. We came home and crashed on the couch to watch The Incredibles and now my unstoppable wife is doing yoga. She’s a machine. Hmm, I wonder if Cascade Lakes will deliver. I’ll leave the door unlocked, just leave it in arm’s reach.

Snowboarding! No… just running. Again.

The Plan was to go snowboarding at lunch today but due to a last minute new business meeting Nick and I decided to try that a different day. That meant a quick lunch time workout instead. I was gonna hit the weights but procrastinated on the computer too long so I went for a quick run in Drake Park. It’s another beautiful, warm and sunny January day here in Central Oregon and it was nice to be outside for some fresh air.

I used the RunKeeper app again and again the GPS jumped over a block at one point but only once. Looking forward to using it on my bike. If snowboarding doesn’t work tomorrow I may bring my bike for a lunch time ride over Aubrey Butte and see how the GPS works there.
