Today was my first official workout session. The first two days of the year were spent dealing with cell phones and websites. I did spend the next two days on the mountain so I did get a little workout there but today is first official session. Which means I’m behind everybody.
I did not get to renew my membership to Juniper Fitness Center at lunch today – had to finally resolve previously mentioned cell phone issue. So, instead I came home after work and did 90 minutes of yoga. Not just any yoga, it’s part of the P90X training system. It combines strength, balance, flexibility, and breath work to enhance your physique and calm your mind. Flexibility is not my strong suit but will definitely be critical in my success so I thought that Yoga X was the perfect place to start.
The first 45 minutes was all about flexibility and strength and pretty much sucked ***. The second half was more about balance poses and was a lot more enjoyable. Valerie has done the Yoga X a couple times already and says she already feels like she is improving so that’s encouraging. I’m definitely feeling the burn in my arms and shoulders. Overall, a solid start to this madness.
So tomorrow, I’ll renew my membership to Juniper and do some weight training. Then perhaps hit the pool on Wednesday. Really need to get a schedule done and stick to it. They have a class that is all about training for your first tri but it’s a $100 and that’s about $99 more than I have. I did purchase a cycle trainer on eBay last night and it arrives in 4 days.
I do miss being on my bike, but the weather has been so unpredictable and besides it’s dark at 4:30 and riding home after dark makes me nervous. So the trainer will get a lot of use. Sadly, gonna have to park the Xterra outside so I can use the garage as a gym. I really hate scraping ice of the windows in the morning but oh well.
Also, as a reference point, checked my weight and BMI tonight and I’ve lost another 4 pounds over the holiday. How I have no idea – I do so love pumpkin pie. Anyway, here’s my stats for the first day of this crazy journey:
Weight: 181 lbs (this is already a big success for me – I’ve been hovering between 195 and 205 since college)
BMI: 23.26
Waist: 33 (pants size anyway)
Height: 6′ 2″ (not that this will change)
Age: 40 (this will change next month)
OK, then. Guess this is my first workout log. See ya tomorrow.
